01 / THE WORK BEHIND THE WORK

Bulk publishing bound to approved data and template versions.

The risk in a large publication run is often the combination of the wrong data and the wrong template. Layout is being designed to make both versions explicit and collect the review evidence for each run.

Where it stands

The source foundation is imported. Governed batch publishing and the redesigned review experience are planned.

02 / THE PLANNED TOOLKIT

Built around
your real work.

The intended Layout experience.
Feature availability will be confirmed before release.

  1. 01

Compose page layouts and text frames

  2. 02

    Build reusable branded templates

  3. 03

    Bind content to approved datasets

  4. 04

    Prepare multi-document publishing runs

  5. 05

    Review overflow and preflight exceptions

  6. 06

Record the inputs behind each release

A CLOSER LOOK / FEATURE DESIGN

How Layout
is intended to work.

Explore the behavior behind the feature names: what the product would do, and what the reviewer would still need to decide.

01Approved input binding

Intended behavior

A run would reference a specific template, brand package, and data snapshot. Working edits to any input would create a new candidate run.

What to inspect

Confirm the intended dataset and the rules used to select records.

02Per-record preflight

Intended behavior

Each output would be checked for required fields, overflow, missing assets, and target constraints. Exceptions would remain linked to the affected record.

What to inspect

Decide which issues block release and which require an explicit accepted exception.

03Traceable reruns

Intended behavior

A correction would identify the changed input and regenerate the affected outputs under a new run identity. Previously distributed outputs would remain distinguishable.

What to inspect

Check whether a partial rerun is sufficient or whether shared template changes require regenerating the whole collection.

03 / THE MRGI DIRECTION

Where we’re taking Layout.

Three product-specific priorities shaping the proposed MRGI experience.

01

Data merge with an approval boundary

Select a reviewed snapshot for a publication run. A live data change should not silently alter hundreds of outputs.

02

Templates treated as production inputs

Record which layout and brand package generated each document. Make later corrections and reruns easier to reason about.

03

Exceptions before distribution

Collect overflow, missing content, and preflight findings in a review queue so the team can approve the output deliberately.

These are development goals, not claims of shipped features or market exclusivity. AI, local operation, and automation are shared foundations—not the entire product distinction.

04 / BETTER CONNECTED

A next step
for every good idea.

Combine Grid datasets, Line brand releases, and Pixel imagery in the same reviewed publishing recipe.

  1. 01

    Design

Create a reusable template with approved brand assets.

  2. 02

    Bind

Select a reviewed Grid snapshot for the run.

  3. 03

    Publish

Resolve preflight exceptions and approve the outputs.

Assistance with a defined role.

Planned assistance can propose layout adjustments or highlight inconsistent content. It will not approve a publishing run on the team’s behalf.

Cross-app access is planned around selected resources and explicit consent. Ordinary local editing should not require uploading your files.

BUILT ON OPEN-SOURCE FOUNDATIONS

Page layout, text frames, data merge, preflight, and PDF/IDML workflows exist in DesignCraft. Approved-input publishing governance is the proposed addition. Read the source credits ↗
